When
looking at Lattice we come across a whole family of products.
First there is the choice of materials e.g. timber, plastic or metal.
Then each material group has a number of varieties in surface
texture, features and appearance.
Mind you when we talk about Lattice, the first thing we think
about is the traditional timber lattice. Well we sell that also. The lattice types are listed from most popular down.
Lattice screens
have several features:
Visibility through the screen, yet maintaining
some privacy      protection, as could be a feature for fences. Light
can come through the screen, which is very desirable for
     screening areas under the house.
Air and in some cases water, can flow
through the lattice, providing      cooling and ventilation.
Lattice shapes and surfaces are often
textured and can look quite      appealing.
Plants can climb around and
through the screens, making lattice
     ideal for arbors and arches.
1. Roll
formed metal lattice.
Gram Engineering, the
manufacturer of the Gramline
Privacy Fence,      makes a truly three
dimensional Steel lattice. It is tailor-made for      fence tops
and fits like a glove in the Gram fencing rail system.
or on link to view their brochure details).
Larger pieces are also
available plus a surround frame, which makes      it possible to
have neatly finished unorthodox shapes, such as      triangles or
hexagonals etc.
This product is very suitable
for filling in the triangular gables      of carports. This
lattice is made from Galvanized steel and is warranted for      outdoor
use.
The Gramlat lattice is structuraly
strong and can support itself.
2. Plastic
Lattice.
All plastic lattice has a 25 year warrantee
against rotting, twisting      and disintegration in outdoor conditions. It
is termite proof and      never needs painting.
Large sheets of plastic lattice are
quite flexible and they do not      carry their own weight.
The largest sheet available is 1220X2440.
Plastic Lattice when installed needs
to be framed. A full sheet in a      single surround frame is too flexible and
requires a mid rail support.      Fence top pieces of 2350 x 300/ 450 /600 are
quite stable      in their frames.
Sheets are between 5 and 7mm thick.
We stock the privacy      diamond variety in a number of colours, depending
on the      supplier…please enquire. One popular supplier of this style of lattice
     is Life Long
Lattice.
The plastic sheets are
moulded and have a timber type texture.      Sometime in 2006 a three
dimensional version will be available,      where moulded slats criss
cross one another as in      real timber lattice.
Some suppliers have a metal frame, some
have a very neat looking      quality plastic frame. The fencing post and rail
framing is the most      economical option. Plastic
lattice is a very attractive alternative to timber lattice      and
quite competitively priced.
3. Metal
Lattice punched from sheet metal.
This material is made from thin sheet
metal and diagonal holes are      punched in the sheet to provide some visibility
and airflow.
When the sheets become larger reinforcing
ribs are needed to      stabilize the sheets.
Most types of this lattice is made in
strips of about 2400 long x      600 wide. These sizes are ideal for fence tops.
Special pergola panels are available
for mounting under the eaves,      dressing up the appearance of carports. Punched
lattice can be galvanised and powder coated
     (e.g Grillemet)
or made from ,
both ideally suited
for outdoor applications, lasting in excess
of 7 years.
A “shadow line” punched lattice is available,
where the ribs in one      direction are pressed further, making the appearance
of a slat      that runs behind, providing the appearance of a “real lattice”.
4. Timber
lattice comes in:
Dressed or sawn lattice.
Each type comes in square and diagonal.
We only stock Dressed Diagonal, but
other varieties can      be ordered. The largest size sheet is 1200x2400.      We
also stock 2400 x 300 pieces for fence tops.
Timber lattice requires painting
to improve durability.
However this type of product will deteriorate quickly
when exposed to the weather. Timber lattice is the cheapest lattice
material.
